Dad Rock 03:18
I wanna be a dad Is this another fad I like the music he plays From the salad days You wanna be a dad Like the ones before But you can’t ignore Responsibility Is this the thing for me? You wanna be a dad Is this another fad Do you think you can? I like the style he wears Like he doesn’t even care From another time Am I unhappy with mine? You wanna be a dad Like the ones before But you can’t ignore Responsibility Is this the thing for me? You wanna be a dad Is this another fad Do you think you can?

You didn’t plan this You were just having fun It was a Weekend in Vegas What have you done? In this chapel now She’s comin’ down the aisle At the altar with Elvis He looks at you and smiles Out-of-body sensation Watch the scene unfold The vows are recited Your blood runs cold You didn’t plan this You were just having fun It was a Weekend in Vegas What have you done? A Weekend in Vegas Honeymoon in Debert Wouldn’t you know I put it all on red And I lost my shirt

I got this taco from a taco truck You say ‘high’ I say ‘how jump’ We were throwing stacks of ones Cos we’re celebrities These complicated flavours are turning me on Must be the barley in this saison Don’t need to tell ya, we’ll keep rockin’ on Cos we’re celebrities “Hold it just right” “Capture the moment” So young and free Ain’t that the dream I follow you You follow me

Wander through the barbeque What’s that sound? Comin’ from the living room Play that song Nobody cares if you play it wrong No expectations No reservations Without further ado Here’s Johnny! And The Red Escorts Walk the dog In the Midnite Hour Baby it’s you (sha-la-la-la-la-la) Comin’ from the living room Play that song Nobody cares if you play it wrong No expectations No reservations Without further ado Here’s Johnny! And The Red Escorts They’ve got the look Those boys can cook It’s ragged but it’s right So right Play that song etc.

Show up to the party Is there anyone you know? Seems you need some entertainment Baby let’s go I’m putting on a show for you Seems like the thing to do Yes I’m putting on a show Cannot fail That’s all I know Putting on a show All cued up and ready to go Fully loaded, baby Putting on a show On a retro sitcom bender Later I’ll binge on HBO Fully loaded, baby Putting on a show No skimping on the budget Got a full ensemble cast They’ve travelled here through time and space Bringing us together here at last This bender is dependent On another aging cast Binge-ing on nostalgia Living in the past And I’m hoping it’ll last So I’m putting on a show for you Seems like the thing to do Yes I’m putting on a show Cannot fail, that’s all I know Get out your lighters And wave them around Let ‘em know what’s going down Yes I’m putting on a show It cannot fail, that’s all I know Let the credits roll

about

Recorded at the Old Confidence Lodge in Nova Scotia’s south shore, The Brood’s Puttin’ On A Show EP is ready for release.

An eclectic and polished record, the EP is a collection of 5 songs that run the gamut stylistically from Chic-like grooves to atmospheric jams reminiscent of The War On Drugs and Khruangbin.

Featuring lush synthesizer layers more prominently than before, The Brood has developed a sound that is both fresh and familiar, with engineer Diego Medina honing the mix.

about

The Brood Halifax, Nova Scotia

Dark and quirky songs that float along like scenes from a night’s dream. Lynchian vibes at the discotheque. Intricate musical interplay, but over a beat you can groove to.
The band’s musical recipe is thus: equal parts vocals, keyboards, bass, guitar and drums, interlocking in an electric dixieland tapestry with nods to new wave, disco, psychedelia and grunge.
